Smiley and welcoming Anglo-Caribbean community. They offer a range of services for older people. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, Doreen, the heart and soul of this lunch club, prepares a full lunch of homemade Caribbean food, including lovely pudding and even home-made ginger beer.
Tuesdays and Thursdays before lunch there is a small group doing guided exercises to the rhythm of up-beat music. There is a combination of sitting and standing exercises, coordination exercises of arms and legs and even exercises using light weights. The perfect way to keep fit and build your appetite for lunch.
Thursdays after lunch Doreen leads a prayer for the community and after, there’s bingo! This is a professional set up with screen for numbers and everything else you’d expect. Afterwards, there might even be Caribbean music and some dancing.
Tuesdays is the quieter day with a group of 10 people, so if you come for the first time you might prefer to come on a Tuesday when Sonia, who runs the club, can give you a proper welcome. Thursday is the busiest day with about 30 people. The premises are wheelchair friendly but the room is not that big, so make sure you arrive early so that the tables can be organised accordingly.
This is a truly fun and welcoming community!
Best contacts are Doreen or John.
